Colonel had a keratoconjuctivectomy and mass removal on his lower eyelid followed by adjunctive
Beta-radiation for a Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of his right eye as well as a mass removed from his
penis. SCC is a very common ocular tumor of horses, particularly in light colored breeds such as draft horses
and Appaloosas. Over-exposure to UV light with this tumor can result in progression and that is why Colonel
needs to wear a UV protective fly mask while outside.
Colonel was hospitalized at the OSU college of Veterinary Medicine from 08/04/11-08/06/11 and is expected
to make a full recovery. Colonel's medical expenses are around $2500.00. The Circle P Sanctuary is a
non-profit organization that is able to operate and make a difference in these animals lives based on your
kind donations. Every dollar counts and we appreciate anything you can give to help cover the cost of
Colonel's recovery.
